|GLORY OF THE ORGAN in the Dutch Reformed Church at Abcoude
Improvisations in 18th-century style by Henk Gijzen
|Henk Gijzen: Overture; Chorale (psalm 146) and 8 variations; Flute concerto; Prelude and Fugue
To preserve the atmosphere of a live improvisation, the sound of register changes has now and then been left audible on the recording, and rather than dead silence, the ambient noise of the building has been kept between the pieces.
A re-issue of VLS's first production (1983), which was reviewed as follows:
A sparkling debut that requires a follow-up" (J. Overduin)
The organ in Abcoude offers much pleasure [...] All the possibilities of the organ are displayed." (Trouw)
The quality of the recording and pressing leave nothing to be desired. No one who buys this record will be disappointed. (Ned. Dagblad)
